Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) has chosen Alstom to supply another four ETR610 New Pendolino tilting train-sets for use on the north–south Gotthard and Simplon corridors from 2017.
This third order involves 250kph seven-car train-sets that will be equipped to operate under three different voltages.
The latest train-sets will enable SBB to handle the expected increase in north–south traffic between the opening of the Gotthard base tunnel in December 2016 and 2019, when Stadler is scheduled to deliver 29 11-car EC250 inter-city train-sets for the route. They will also provide additional operational flexibility by offering a potential increase in passenger capacity between Geneva and Milan.
