Erith-based RK International Machine Tools Ltd (
www.rk-int.com) has signed a five-year agreement with Aeromachinery Ltd to market machinery from the Swedish company Modig Machine Tools, which has a reputation as being a leader in innovation and technology for high-speed machining — in particular for the one-hit production of aluminium aircraft stringers.
The company’s latest developments include its Modig Extrusion machine, designated HHV; this gives a 50% gain in productivity compared with earlier models.
Modig has installed more than 40 HHVs over the last four years. A recent development for the HHV is its ability to use bar stock, as opposed to extrusions.
Dick Aldridge, RK International’s sales director, says: “With the UK having Europe’s largest aerospace customer base, which generated £27.8 billion for the economy in 2013, the Modig range — particularly the HHV series of machines — can further increase machine productivity through reduced component machining times and handling times.”
